After watching The Queen's Gambit on Netflix I got interested in chess. I played a bit against computer programs and it made me curious about writing my own chess engine. This repository and a series of small videos I upload to Youtube after each milestone are documenting my progress. (by lithander)

Any weaker UCI engines?

I made a new C# engine, it’s slow but it was fun to make!
The Problem I had is that a lot of low-rated engines are low rated because they lose on bugs and have other issues. So it's not easy to find good sparring partners. To best of my knowledge my engine works correctly under all time controls and I've played ten thousand games without an issue. So if you want a sparring partner maybe give MinimalChess a try! ;)

An awesome introduction to (minimax-based) Chess AI by Sebastian Lage
I gutted my own C# chess engine, then copied the chess playing code from Sebastians Unity project over, changed what needed changing to make it compile again. So now you can play against Sebastians Chess-AI in your favorite chess GUIs.

Are there any chess engines with customizable evaluation functions?
https://github.com/TheBlackPlague/StockNemo, eval function is 76 lines of code. and simpleeval https://github.com/vondele/Stockfish/tree/simpleEval a modified version of stockfish which just uses piece value as an eval function (1, 3, 3, 5, 9)
