I got pretty far with a 20$ server: https://github.com/LandOfTheRair/LandOfTheRair/

Gamedev with Angular
You'll probably want to use a canvas for anything visual, but you can certainly do a lot with angular. My game renders a map, player, and monsters with phaser (canvas/webgl) and everything else is done with angular. Visual example

Are Browser MMOs Still In Demand?
While they're not very popular, I have been making one. My end goal will be desktop apps with electron, or you can play in the browser if needed.

Looking for open source game to modify.
It's not open world, but I've been working on what I'd like one day to be an MMO.
-
Would an open-source MMO (or similarly non-private multiplayer game) be possible?
https://rair.land (disclaimer: I'm making it) is an open source MMO.

Sharing my own TS-Scaffold project with couple built in perks to save you time on your next project
You're welcome. If you're looking for more implementation ideas, I have it here. Basically, on version it'll do everything, generate a changelog and a current changelog (I use this to publish only the most recent set of changes in a github release), commit the changelog, and then a script to untag and retag the current version to include the changelog.

Angular Material Customization
Nothing fancy, just a lot of overrides (and some more here). Just a bunch of small changes that eventually became somewhat cohesive. The easiest things you can change to affect material:

Looking for rpgs that can be easily run online
If all you need is a character sheet with some automation, Fari is great, has a varied collection of games and you can build one of your own with a drag & drop GUI. I think Role and OMM have some free options and you could build a character sheet with automation without coding in them.

mothership assistant - a mapless vtt for mothership
I don't know if you're aware of Fari, it's an other open source vtt (Github link). Might be worth a look to see if there's something that could help you out with items on your roadmap, it also used to use PeerJs (not anymore).

900 backers and 700% funding for a first Kickstarter is quite wild
Yes, I maintain the Fari Community Discord servers with around 1000 people in it to talk about the free VTT Fari App, the free resource website Fari Community, and all things TTRPG. I also have a blog/newsletter where I share insights about game design, and the latest news about my projects, which has more than 500 subs.

Anyone know of a good Character Sheet creator app?
https://fari.app/ is pretty awesome to create character sheets, but I don't know how well it works on mobile.
-
Platform/VTT of choice for systems that have no online tools?
I know you mentioned maps, but I also know that a lot of those indie games are based around Theatre of the Mind play, and if you're looking for a VTT that doesn't bother with a map, you've got a few options. I'd consider fari.app, which is an ultra-light web-based system that has chat, dice rolls, a simple whiteboard, character sheet builder, etc. A step up from that would be Role which is much fancier, and has built in video chat.
- VTT suggestion for original game.
-
Best VTT or virtual whiteboard for people who like to draw?
Fari is criminally underrated, and among its goodies there's a decent whiteboard. (Though you seem to be a power user in this regard, so it may fall short of your expectations.)

I need help finding an online character sheet that's not fantasy grounds, roll20, or dnd beyond please
Wow, never heard about fari.app before. It's awesome! Thanks for sharing. I only wish it had some way of storing the data in a local format because it all disappears after a browser cache reset.
