    The Free and Open-Source VTT

  • I know you mentioned maps, but I also know that a lot of those indie games are based around Theatre of the Mind play, and if you're looking for a VTT that doesn't bother with a map, you've got a few options. I'd consider fari.app, which is an ultra-light web-based system that has chat, dice rolls, a simple whiteboard, character sheet builder, etc. A step up from that would be Role which is much fancier, and has built in video chat.
