It was my first scan for paimon.moe so there is no history of my earlier wishes so you be prepared your averages to drop a bit more lol, but no kidding my account started bit similiar to yours, but the more I wish the luckier I get.

As the others have already mentioned, it's literally 50:50. There is also a community site to record your pull history (paimon.moe). If you're curious about the stat, you could check home > global wish stat > check which banner you want to see.
They get announced on hoyolab I believe, paimon.moe has an event timeline
Yes, you have to count manually from the history tab. However, wish history is deleted after 6 months which is why people use third party sites like paimon.moe to save their history.

Is pity even a real system?
i'm not a stats guy, but the massive amounts of wish data that places like paimon.moe have collected have confirmed that every individual wish on character event banners has a ~0.6% chance of being a 5* up until you hit, i believe, 74 pity/wishes spent, at which point the data shows that there is a slight increase in chance of each wish being a 5* up until you hit 90 wishes (at which point that chance become 100%). i think the banner info says it's a ~1.6% chance, but that's the average chance when you factor in that there's an increased chance of pulling a 5* at 74+ wishes. the first 73 are still at ~0.6% chance.
statements about pity/soft pity and 50-50s are backed up by data collected by wish tracking systems like paimon.moe
