I want to try fixing my console again years after screwing it up.
I would try to find an original kernel and download it (various kernel filenames found here), get hakchi CE, and try to restore your system to stock by clicking Kernel > Uninstall. Then see if the system turns on properly.

I've got one of the official Nintendo-made ones, and loaded it up with another 39 games beyond what it came with. I think that Hakchi2 CE is still the favored tool for doing that.

How do you add games to the SNES Classic?
A guy called madmonkey came up with a tool called Hakchi to hack the NES Classic (same hardware as the SNES Classic). Hakchi2 was built as an improved version of that, and to make it available to Windows users. That one isn't being developed anymore, and Hakchi2 CE is kind of the designated successor.

What are some alternatives?
hakchi2 - Tool that allows you to add more games to your NES/SNES Classic Mini. WARNING: hakchi2 is no longer supported. Please use hakchi2 CE.
NomNom - NomNom is the most complete savegame editor for NMS but also shows additional information around the data you're about to change. You can also easily look up each item individually to examine its attributes, independently of a savegame, or get other useful information that are not related to a specific savegame (but enhanced if one is loaded).
