Is there a way to replace symlinks with the contents of what they point to when staging?
I did find a tool called GitBSLR which was written to add support. I don't think I'd recommend actually using it. Even though it's an impressive hack, to me the whole thing doesn't seem like a good idea. Instead, I mentioning it because the fact that someone bothered to write it looks like pretty good confirmation that Git doesn't have the feature.

I'm currently polishing GitQlient before I ship the 1.3.0 version during January. There is a lot of UI improvements and it was tricky to support every Qt version from 5.12 to 5.15.
What are some alternatives?
