Projects to fill GitHub over the summer
Outside of biology, some of these visualization/ML skills can be useful to have on your portfolio. For instance, I once had a project where I scraped Reddit comments to test Godwin's Law and used that to teach myself the basic statistical approaches to K-M survival analysis (shameless plug), which is pretty nifty if your lab ever has to correlate sequencing results against human/mouse survival data.

I was inspired by the previous post by /u/Lukas_Halim that used survival analysis to model Godwin's Law on Reddit. I forked his original repository and extended his scraper; rather than simply taking the top 5000 posts, I used the PRAW and PushShift APIs to scrape ~250 subreddits (including /r/all and /r/popular) for:

I did a Terminal-UI library (pyTermTk) That you can use, for example, to build terminal Multiplexer that looks like an Amiga Workbench.

pyTermTk sandbox with Pyodide + xterm.js + CodeMirror5 + other stuff
After giving up countless times since I started this project, I finally managed to dig the dark secrets of Pyodide and run pyTermTk on a browser, all of this, of course, thanks to the magic of xterm.js. I know, my friend, I know what you are thinking, I was disgusted at first picturing that hideous javascript defiling the python purity of my code, but, when I saw my red pepper shining on webkit engine, well, I couldn't hold back a tear. And after that, who am I to not include also an editor and my collection of demos and examples? So, here it is, a super minimal buggy and feature incomplete pyTermTk Sandbox
