I also change a few things using GNOME Tweaks; namely setting the application theme to Orchis-grey-dark-compact (https://github.com/vinceliuice/Orchis-theme), icon theme to Flatery-Dark (https://github.com/cbrnix/Flatery) and system font to Inter (https://rsms.me/inter/).

I've been using this setup for quite a while and I've been very happy with my computing experience, both in terms of aesthetics and overall UX. I tried tiling WMs for a while (first KWin and then i3 / Sway) but I found that I'm just a messy person who tends to be more productive with a floating WM.

I know how you feel about kde. Gnome is definitely more robust in that way. Gnome can be customized quite a bit via extensions and themes. Arc menu is the first that comes to my mind that makes it look like cinnamon/windows. For some reason there isn't much picturez but it has many different layouts for start menu https://gitlab.com/arcmenu/ArcMenu

There still isn't an application menu. In my opinion this is a great tool to introduce new users to what's available, as well as a reminder for seasoned users. An easy solution would have been to integrate the awesome Arc Menu. I know, I know "You can just install it yourself" but sometimes Gnome shell extensions break, right? If it was integrated into Ubuntu 22.04, not so much.

I'm running Arch Linux with GNOME on Wayland. It's mostly perfect for me out-of-the-box, however I have customized it to my liking with the help of a few extensions:

With that said: I am myself into unix ricing (i.e., the art of creating customization and visual improvements to one's desktop). I find it interesting to challenge my way of working, how to efficiently and elegantly find applications and options. This opens my thinking to new ways of interaction with my machine. If you seek inspiration in this domain, you should visit /r/unixporn. I would also recommend looking at something like ArcMenu who provides several Start Menu options.

I'm trying to build ArcMenu from source using their guide. I chose the default master branch. When I run 'make install' (also tried 'make' and 'make -f Makefile'), I get the following error:

I wonder if the Recommended section in the new like Elementary OS inspired Start Menu has an option to be turned off ? Off course i don't expect the level of customization i get from ArcMenu but common sense options should be available.
