Goodbye EDDB
Data comes from all the players using the apps which submit data to the EDDN (Elite Dangerous Data Network), which does not store any of the data but streams it to various sites like EDDB who do store data and provide backups, see: https://github.com/EDCD/EDDN
-
Oh no. 07u2
If anyone is up to it, EDDB was pretty much a frontend/database for EDDN (which does not appear to be shut down). If you ever configured EDMC to send data to EDDB, it was basically send to that. EDDN to be clear doesn't store the data, it just makes it available for any interest party.

Let's remake EDDB
For more details see the EDDN github.

Selling core mats: wait or not?
The hardcore traders are monitoring the EDDN feed directly. They get alerts in Discord (or via text message) when commodities sell above thresholds they set. They're monitoring the background simulation (BGS), participating in coordinated market scouting efforts, and even manipulating the BGS to get desirable states like Boom or Public Holiday. They're supporting Powers that give influence or trade bonuses. They have fleet carriers that stockpile desirable commodities, and they're part of squadrons that can completely fulfill a station's demand anywhere in the Bubble in 15 minutes or less. If you want to get the best possible prices for your mined commodities, you need to raise your level of gameplay to match these players.

Feeling kind of lost
https://github.com/EDCD/EDDN/tree/live - EDDN is also data sharing
-
Where do Inara commodity prices come from? They're mostly lies.
Depends on how many CMDRS are syncing their journals to EDDN: Elite Dangerous Data Network

This seems like one of the best games I've ever played, and I don't even know how to play it.
Helping the community. There is a gigantic database called EDDN that gets data from many different sources to build the tools you've seen above and much more. It's a phenomenal community-based enterprise, and one of the reasons why I've fallen in love with this game (despite the Black Adders). Wanna contribute? The link above will guide you through. Basically download, install and configure one of the recommended apps and all necessary information will be sent to the database, for everyone to use.

Elite Dangerous Market Connector 5.3.1
If you're writing a tool that looks to send over EDDN then please be sure you read all the documentation (which I've recently spent time improving) -> https://github.com/EDCD/EDDN/tree/live .

What are your must-have plugins/resources for ED?
EDDiscovery
-
im just tryin to relax while exploring @_@
That's one of the things I like about EDDiscovery's text-to-speech plugin, when you're jumping to a system where you'll arrive at a white dwarf / neutron star it gives you an audible warning to throttle down during your hyperspace jump. Something along the lines of "Warning: star is dangerous. Throttle down now!"

Favorite Third-Party Tools?
EDDiscovery or EDMC to update the EDDN and have useful information at your fingertips. I prefer EDDiscovery, hugely useful for explorers. Link your account to keep your info up to date and keep the community up to date to allow nearly all these other tools to work.

NEWB starting at -1 on this!
YouTube, Reddit, and the forums are your friend, there are also many the third party sites and applications available to help you to navigate and locate facilities within the game. The most commonly recommended site is Inara and the applications recommended to support it are ED Market Connector or ED Discovery. The applications send market data that Inara use to keep track of the trade markets, they include search functions which help you to find what stations have what services, including what ships and modules are available. Inara can also track your commander data to if you make an account and link it to your Frontier account.

I found a very strange planet in the black with an extremely high orbital eccentricity (0.9926), to the point where it breaks the ornery view of its orbital trajectory
(In case you haven't done so yet I suggest running EDDiscovery or EDDLite so it'll be recorded/updated to EDAstro.)
-
How long did it take you to stop messing with your deck
On PC I was using EDD, which integrates with sites like Inara.cz

Starting My Deep Space Journey
My personal choice at the moment is EDMC; it has plugin support with some being very useful for exploration. Already mentioned is EDDiscovery - this is a more 'full on' tool but it's packed with features. There's also a new-ish one I've not yet tried myself that's designed to be far more light-weight; EDDLite.
-
I'm not very bright, but i love this game
Oh also a great utility to have installed if on PC is EDDiscovery it provides a ton of information that can be very useful. If you ever setup accounts on 3rd party sites such as EDSM, Inara, Coriolis, ED Shipyard, ED Astro, or EDDN Network among others it can integrate with those accounts as well!
-
How long until you can expect INARA prices to be invalid?
If you run ED Market Connector or ED Discovery in the background, they send the market data that Inara uses to track commodity prices.
-
Is there a way to see how many bio samples am I carrying with me?
