Simple dialer in fdroid doesn't have Truecaller api field
Yes, that's true. I used this dialer from GitHub. It side steps Truecaller and uses their api to get caller id.

What is the best alternative for Truecaller?
If you just want to manually search a number and find the name for it... Use Basecaller it scrapes its data from truecaller's database and will provide exactly the same results as the trucaller app.... So i think this is exactly what you are looking for....

Also this is another sample project I made in dart to use the api call to display data. Wanted to add the caller id feature but faced some issue so dropped the idea. There is bound to be lots of bugs in this. It was only as a POC to see if I can make the api call n truecaller won't block it. BaseCaller
