Have you looked at nightscout? If you are a developer then I'm guessing you shouldn't have any issues setting it up. You can then use that to display it on an external display. If you still want to develop your own app, you can use its API. That's what I've been using for an app I've been working on https://github.com/Peeler-Coding-LLC/GlucoseViewer
What are some alternatives?
share2nightscout-bridge - azure sidecar, bridges Dexcom share2 to Nightscout
timeow-mac - macOS menubar app that displays how long you've been actively using your computer. It is configurable, and keeps track of active sessions and breaks

Spike - Get The Most Out Of Your CGM Transmitter
MMM-SugarValue - Unofficial Magic Mirror module for Dexcom G6
Avalonia - Develop Desktop, Embedded, Mobile and WebAssembly apps with C# and XAML. The most popular .NET UI client technology
MagicMirror - MagicMirror² is an open source modular smart mirror platform. With a growing list of installable modules, the MagicMirror² allows you to convert your hallway or bathroom mirror into your personal assistant.
cgmMonitor - An update to my cgm_monitor
cgm-remote-monitor - nightscout web monitor
