If your project isn't anything critical, and you are willing to experiment with something earlier in development, you might want to take a look at my project https://github.com/schombert/DataContainer as it seems to have the features you are looking for with respect to serialization/deserialization and relationships. As for readability ... that is a harder to sell. It has a "nice syntax" that I am happy with, but that is very subjective
