Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Running Laravel in a subdirectory (Tricky Nginx config)
You can also go about this by setting up the app as it's own server block, then proxying to that for the path within the main server. Example here. That way you can manage all the Laravel app stuff in its own server block, which can simplify config a little by not needing to nest so deep.

Looking to meet other developers/contributors.
I'm also a self-tought dev and been maintaining an open source Laravel app for the last 6 years, I have a repo for a few webserver configs and install scripts, feel free to take bits from there or use as a reference if needed: https://github.com/BookStackApp/devops

Stuck on Bookstack installation
We have install scripts provided from the docs for fresh versions of Ubuntu LTS releases. If on a non-fresh machine, You could instead open and follow the installation script as a guide as I keep it commented for this purpose. I recently created a video of using the install script, I may soon look to create a similar one to run through the manual install steps.

What's an open source Evernote alternative with an app for Windows, iOS, and Android?
It's not drop+run like many other PHP apps, but it's not too extreme either. Even if not using the install script you can still use it as a guide, I attempt to keep the scripts commented for this purpose: https://github.com/BookStackApp/devops/blob/master/scripts/installation-ubuntu-20.04.sh

Yunohost: How to install bookstack?
You might be better off raising this as an issue on their GitHub repo, I've recently had to make changes to the install scripts we provide, due to composer throwing a warning.
