[Research] SELM: Symmetric Encryption with Language Models
For anyone thinking that LMs are overhyped and/or are getting fairly repetitive, this work might convince you otherwise. We use (small) language models in a symmetric encryption algorithm to encrypt arbitrary data. The website samuelstevens.me/research/encryption has lots of neat widgets to play with, so even if you're not familiar with encryption, it should be fairly approachable. The code github.com/OSU-NLP-Group/SELM and pre-print arxiv.org/abs/2305.10445 are also available.
