Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Zig self hosted compiler is now capable of building itself
To clarify I meant as int8/int16's are packed in structs to compare to struct bitfields. Can't recall about the stack rules. Here's more discussion:

Also ARM for example doesn't have 8/16 bit registers so int8 or int16 will use a 32bit register:

Curiosity got to me, perhaps Zig had improved significantly. So I compared the first benchmark I found (kostya/benchmarks/bf) with Zig with Nim. For the smaller input (bench.b) Zig did run with ~22% less RAM (about 20kB less).
However, for the larger input (mandel.b) Nim+ARC used ~33% less RAM in safe mode: Nim 2.163mb -d:release; Zig 2.884mb -O ReleaseSafe; Zig 2.687mb -O ReleaseFast. The Nim requires 0.5mb less ram and the code is ~40% shorter. I don't have time to try out the Rust or Go versions though.

Things I've learned about building CLI tools in Python
Fingers crossed for vlang[0]. It's like golang with better types and more syntactic sugar. Feels like a proper upgrade from Python.
I really hope they succeed.

Ah, Go, with its simple and straightforward syntax, where things just make sense (most of the time, before generics were added)
And again a No true Scotsman. If that's the kind of attitude you have towards languages, you'll appreciate V infinitely more than you might be appreciating Rust. After all, it offers better solutions than Rust, like autofree, they just aren't there yet :)

Seed7 version 2023-05-29 released on GitHub and SF
According to their own benchmarks, Seed7 can run faster than C (it compiles to C, but it's entirely possible the emited code is better optimized than a human could write directly in C)... it doesn't have a GC BUT manages memory automatically (I didn't really follow the explanation in the FAQ, something about automatically freeing variables that go out of scope and keeping only one reference around?)... that's like a current pipe dream for language designers!
