The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

What note do you typically sample in?
A technical reason is that 440Hz (or its multiples) plays nice(st) with common recording frequencies such as 22.05kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz, etc. Taking 44.1kHz for example, if you divide 44100 samples per second by 100 cycles per second, you get a clean 441. Meaning that if you would concatenate 100 single-cycle waveforms you would end up with a perfect 441Hz pitch, which is only an 1Hz error (barely audible if put side-by-side). Being able to work in integers like that is extremely beneficial for "lighter" variants of DSP algorithms (such as resampling algorithms) - it may help reduce aliasing as well as manual sample editing or synthesis (one of the reasons why the AKWF single cycle collection were originally created at a multiple of 100 samples as well).

WaveUser wavetables
I haven't tried making wavetables from scratch, but if you haven't already you should check out the Adventure Kid waveform pack. He created them from a whole variety of sources - traditional instruments, synths, nature sounds, etc. - and they're public domain.

KARRA - FL21
3xOsc is such a great utility synth, I use it for bass and leads a lot, sometimes all you want is just a sine wave or a de-tuned saw with basic envelope. The custom waveform support makes it super versatile. While fruity does come with some custom shapes I'd recommend getting a waveform library to expand your options - (this one is decent and free: https://www.adventurekid.se/akrt/waveforms/adventure-kid-waveforms/). I normally do all my filtering/distortion/reverb etc downstream of it so it works well for my work flow.

where can I find useful samples for Renoise
Adventure Kid has a bunch of single-cycle waveforms for download here.

Are there any decent sample packs for sound design?

Any good sources of wavetables?
I think that this is the paradise of waves! https://www.adventurekid.se/akrt/waveforms/adventure-kid-waveforms/

Suggestions on how to improve FluidSynth
I'm trying to code a fix for it here: https://github.com/FluidSynth/fluidsynth/issues/1282

Show HN: UPiano, a Piano in Your Terminal
Hello HN!
This is a Python app I've built for fun, while learning the Textual library, it's a piano/synthesizer app that you can play with the keyboard + mouse.
You can see a demo video of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VXit110PcA
You need to install FluidSynth before using it: https://www.fluidsynth.org/
It uses the Python bindings pyFluidSynth library: https://github.com/nwhitehead/pyfluidsynth
- No audio output in Ardour6

Best resources to integrate instrument sounds into a game?
There’s a ton of free synths / sound engines out there. I would start by seeing if you can integrate one of those. FluidSynth (https://www.fluidsynth.org/) is one of the more popular ones. It supports audio samples in the SoundFont format, and there’s a ton of free SoundFont sample banks out there you can find—you can find a bunch of different recommended sample banks, and my personal choice is GeneralUser GS. “GS” is a Roland extension to GM that includes additional instruments and percussion kits.

Timidity++ sound exactly like Windows Media Player
With all the programs you tried, it's hard to believe you missed Fluidsynth. Or maybe you tried it and it didn't work.
- apt list is showing different results for 2 different systems
- Trying to connect keyboard with laptop and play through headphones
