Pathing and Inventory
As far as the pathfinding goes, some people claim that some versions of the EE actually made it worse. I don't remember the classic games (or the earlier versions of the EE) well enough at this point to confirm that, but it might well be true. In any case, there are two options I'm aware of that can improve the pathfinding. One is to increase the Path Search Nodes value in your baldur.lua file. The other is to install the Hidden Gameplay Options mod and enable the Enhanced Path Search setting. Still, you'll sometimes have to micromanage party positioning, especially during combat in tight locations, and there's just no way around that. You can also enable the debug/cheat mode and use the Ctrl+J shortcut to teleport your party. Irrespective of any pathfinding issues, I routinely use that shortcut just to save time when traveling through areas that have already been explored and have no enemies.

For someone who's never played before - best way to experience the Baldur's Gate series?
Easiest way to add teleporting command (Ctrl + J to teleport to mouse cursor location) is to install Reveal Hidden Gameplay Options mod. You want the "Enable Debug Mode" for it. There are two other QoL updates you should grap "Show Area of Effect Range" and "Show trigger icons on tab".

Mod overview: Tweaks, convenience mods, quality of life, and other minor enhancements
EET Tweaks: despite the name, compatible with non-EET games as well. Its XP caps and XP reductions (for quests, killing monsters, and lockpicking/spell-learning) are useful if you’re running a lot of quest mods: as overleveling can kill any semblance of challenge, reducing XP gain to something more sensible makes for a better experience. Also features “consistent NPC appearance” options for those appearing in more than one game (including for cameo NPCs). Components that some may consider slightly cheesy: “PnP spell scroll caster levels,” “disable hostile reaction after charm,” “import party items to SoA.” Also offers convenience tweaks such as a key ring and wand case.

Trying to remove the ex cap BG1EE off steam
I'm trying to use a mod to remove the level cap in BG1EE. I ran across https://github.com/K4thos/EET_Tweaks/releases/tag/v1.12 I'm not sure if it's current.

Is there any mod to reduce the amount of experience gained?
EET Tweaks - https://github.com/K4thos/EET_Tweaks/releases/tag/v1.12 - offers components for this. These component tweaks work on all games and do not require EET.
