Project mention: Elvish, expressive programming language and a versatile interactive shell | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-05-09After being a fish die-hard for like a decade I finally gave up and learned to embrace Bash for its ubiquity. I realized all I cared about in fish was the built-in autocomplete, colorized output, and history management, which I was able to bolt on in short order to Bash.
Now I use ble.sh [1] and Oh My Bash! [2] and Atuin [3] and I love it.
This is really a field where I feel standardization is the better path. It's a similar feeling I get when I observe the vast array of notetaking apps I see made and think here is a place where it would be better to pick one FOSS solution and contribute.

What does ngs do regarding text input... using readline like bash does? Or your own implementation? https://github.com/ardagnir/athame sounds so good for my vim-washed computerbrain. I imagine you don't want to embed NeoVim in your interactive shell (or do you????), but I'm wishing of that being provided in my next era dreamed-of shell <3
Project mention: CLI application libraries, updated versions (readline and spf13/cobra console). | /r/golang | 2023-06-03A readline shell library: https://github.com/reeflective/readline.The `readline` library has been fully rewritten to provide full support for the widespread `.inputrc` init file format (used by bash shells and all programs using the GNU C Readline library). The library has been rewritten into a much more robust codebase with complete test coverage of the core code.
Project mention: Ask HN: Have you coded any productivity software just for yourself? | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-05-05A lot of small automations. Probably the most notable one is my vim-mode for macOS Finder (implemented as a Karabiner-plugin): https://github.com/chrisgrieser/finder-vim-mode
