Project mention: Ask HN: What is new in Algorithms / Data Structures these days? | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-05-10How about some succinct data structures and delta encoding for modern databases [1]. Succinct data structures are a family of data structures which are close in size to the information theoretic minimum representation (while still being queryable).

Project mention: Protégé: A free, open-source ontology editor for building intelligent systems | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-11-10Yes, consensus in ontology building has traditionally been a huge drag for the adoption of ontologies.
However, I don't think the core issue is consensus itself, but instead that the prevalent form of consensus in the ontology authoring space is consensus by committee rather than consensus by usage (as is usual in the open source software space).
That's why I've in the past been involved in creating Plow[0], a package manager for ontologies, with the aim of bringing the same "grassroots" nature and network effects that you find in other open source ecosystem to ontology engineering.

Project mention: Update of the RDF and SPARQL (RDF star) families of specifications | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-05-19I am glad to see this as well. I decided to use RDF for my personal project because it was well specified, has many implementations, and a human readable syntax. In the end, it is just data but I wanted to make it as accessible as possible. Does this mean that RDF is always the right choice? No, but it worked for my use case. I wish there were more choices in the open source Triplestore space with good OWL2 support but my project works with what is out there and if someone wants to transform it into something else, that is entirely possible to do.
If you are interested, my project is here: https://github.com/cyocum/irish-gen and a few posts about it are here https://cyocum.github.io/.
