Project mention: Advise on best way to implement video calling functionality into my web app | /r/webdev | 2023-06-07ant media server is the cheapest and has good documentation its also open source. it does the work for us https://github.com/ant-media/Ant-Media-Server/

Project mention: A popular Bluetooth car battery monitor that siphons up all your location data | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-06-26It's worth a try though to push back. We are not talking holding off a bunch of murderous Russian troops. It's not a good look trying to recall " ... and they came for me" either.
Just push back. Here's an example: Reolink are a Chinese company, what makes cameras - nothing intrinsically wrong with that but you should expect them to be be required to comply with any requirements the CCP might ... require. Reolink are also quite a savvy bunch and have gradually ensured that their products don't actually require an internet connection, at all. They do offer an app and the requirements of using the app are that the cams need to see the interwebs and be gatewayed by systems that are eventually subject to the CCP.
Now this isn't quite yet perfect. Rio cams have offered ONVIF for at least five years, so Zoneminder, Frigate and all the rest can be your NVR. The camera's VLAN can be firewalled off from the internet. Mine is called THINGS and it is net door to SEWER for stuff I really worry about!
Their doorbell offering is pretty decent but two way comms needs some handling. At the moment their app is the best bet for functionality but there are signs that Home Assistant with webrtc - https://github.com/AlexxIT/WebRTC should be OK.
It is not impossible to live without prop software. At least care and try.
I'd have to circle back and look again because it's been a few years. I was able to get Zoneminder to do 95% of what I wanted even if it felt a bit clunky. Shinobi was an up-and-comer last time I was looking around, but I remember having some frustrations and decided to stick with BI.
How do folks test timing-related stuff with MSW? AFAIK, MSW doesn't get along with jest.useFakeTimers. It drives me nuts; I have a bunch of disabled tests in an open-source project and at least one that is flaky because it uses real timers where I'd like to be using fake timers. [1, 2]
I've been thinking about ripping out MSW from my tests in favor of my own API-level mock for this reason. But it seems like many other folks are happy with MSW. I have to assume there's something I'm not getting. I'm a fish out of water with frontend stuff in general...

Appears amcrest-cli works, at least for short audio clip playback?
Hello, I am trying to make Android app that can read my esp32 MJPEG stream(I have used this Github Repo to stream the MJPEG stream over to my application from my ESP32 CAM. So far, I can start the mjpeg stream and stop the stream, but I am confused about how I could possibly start recording a stream and stop recording the stream. I want to have dedicated stop and start recording buttons in my app to save the stream to the user's gallery, but this is where I am stuck. Thank you!
Project mention: In search for a IP camera that works in LAN only and needs no access to the internet | /r/selfhosted | 2023-05-30Have been looking for the same but either they are rare to get or expensive compared to other available in market. So I started using TP-Link Tapo cameras, blocked internet access for camera, connected them to custom-made bare-bone NVR and remote access using zerotier. It is working great.
