Centaur Emacs - A Fancy and Fast Emacs Configuration

Project mention: How to overcome nausea and depression when switching from vi to emacs? Please help | reddit.com/r/emacs | 2021-10-17

Do not use doom as the heretics suggest! It is an awful experience and very janky, they also change how emacs is configured in a weird way that doesn't lead to one understanding the lisp or how emacs starts up. I'd suggest witchmacs (https://github.com/snackon/Witchmacs) or centaur emacs (https://github.com/seagle0128/.emacs.d) to get a feel of how a config actually looks like. With doom it is obscured under so much. As an exvimmer I moved to god-mode and emacs bindings just because everything always works with these. Using evil gets a little complicated since it doesn't always function properly. But using evil is probably best for you at the moment.

  • dumb-jump

an Emacs "jump to definition" package for 50+ languages

    Project mention: Closing 10% of all Emacs bugs | news.ycombinator.com | 2022-09-06

I don't really have any trouble using Emacs on the "modern" C++ codebases that I'm working on. I've tried lsp-mode and eglot with clangd but found that really all I need is a little bit of elisp to call clang-format, dumb-jump (<https://github.com/jacktasia/dumb-jump>) to jump to definition, and project-compile to build the project and collect warnings/errors into a buffer.

  • emacs-ipython-notebook

    Jupyter notebook client in Emacs

    Project mention: IPython Notebook layer | reddit.com/r/spacemacs | 2022-05-10

Hey all! I'm quite attracted by the Emacs IPython Notebook (ein) package and would love to incorporate it into my workflow. However last time I tried (about a year and a half ago) it was officially unsupported in spacemacs and my experiments led to constant headaches like undotree failing, notebooks not saving, native compilation crashing, and a reliance on elpy for IDE features (afaik the only elpy layer available can be found here, uses ESS bindings, and seems to be orphaned.)
