Project mention: How do Instapaper and Pocket apps extract the content of the articles? | /r/opensource | 2023-12-04Edit: I found this library in NodeJs useful for article extraction. Anyone looking for something like you can take a look. https://github.com/extractus/article-extractor
Project mention: Does Thai language uses question mark in the end of the sentence to denote an interrogative sentence? | /r/thai | 2023-05-25But on some articles here I can see question marks.
- I would also humbly recommend my own writing project, link in my profile if you're inetrested
I also recommend looking at Morss.it (https://morss.it/) if there is a site you want to subscribe to without a feed. It generally works very well (RSS Bridge and RSS Hub serve the same purpose if you want to self-host).
Project mention: Need some help with my personal project (interactive world map with real-time data) | /r/datascience | 2023-05-15The web crawling part wasn't much of an issue - I am using an existing API (https://pypi.org/project/gnews/) which does what I needed. The issue lies in, well, pretty much the rest of the task described above. I need to create an interactive world map with real-time data (news articles) - more specifically, maintaining the data server, figuring out the data mapping part, etc. Since I pretty much have no experience in this, I would like to ask you guys for some directions. What tool would I need to use and how would I store/load the data? Is it possible to do so without writing some Javascript code myself?
Project mention: Developer of third-party reddit client, Apollo for iOS states reddit is asking him for $20M to keep his API Access. What will you do if third party Reddit clients get shut down? | /r/Android | 2023-05-31Considering that I only access reddit either occasionally from Relay on my phone or primarily modified version of the terminal TUI tuir (They killed the API token for TUIR, but you can still use it if you setup your own API key.) which I'm using now to write this comment from, it would likely reduce my Reddit usage by >90%. I usually have tuir nested in a tmux session, which I would likely change to a hackernews reader like hackernews-TUI.
Project mention: Display glitch with Chromium based browsers (Chrome, Edge, and Brave) | /r/pop_os | 2023-07-11System76 customers can get personal support at https://support.system76.com/
Project mention: Show HN: Twine – Gorgeous open source multiplatform RSS app | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-01-31It Technically could but as far as I am aware it doesn't.
Some alternatives
TT-RSS has multiple plugins, including the one I currently support https://github.com/feediron/ttrss_plugin-feediron
FressRSS has CSS selector support out of the box and has a readability extension that supports Readability or Mercury
I've been dreaming of porting Feediron to both FreshRSS and Nextcloud news. But I barely have any free time as is... one day
