Project mention: Show HN: Driftmania – an open source PICO-8 racing game | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-02-16Nice work, gives me very Micro Machines vibes for the NES. The only thing I don't like about PICO-8 is that its completely closed source. An open source alternative that seems very promising is Pyxel. It has similar retro / pixel art limitations, a built-in sprite editor, music tracker, etc.

Project mention: Hoard-of-bitfonts: turns out I like bitmap fonts | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-08-15
Project mention: NES emulator with network multiplayer written in Go | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-08-19
I was hoping that would be the case!
Unfortunately, the bitmap font manipulation tools I'm using (monobit¹ and BitsNPicas²) do not support putting more than one strike into an OpenType wrapper. If there's some other tool that can do that assembly, I'd like to hear about it.

Towards the end is a link to a C compiler built for this project. https://github.com/imihajlow/ccpu-cc. Seems to have a linker and a libc as well. I have no real understanding of how complicated the hardware design part is but casually throwing a C compiler together is great.
