I don't know how often it's a problem, but I work for a company doing software video encoding, and we always fill up all the dimm slots on servers to have as much bandwidth as possible, even if we have only really use maybe 1/4 of the RAM.
I'm not sure any of the standard Linux tools can show you memory bandwidth usage easily (maybe perf), I know we use Intel PCM (https://github.com/intel/pcm) and AMDuProfPCM (https://www.amd.com/en/developer/uprof.html)

Seconding this. I was able to just run it with docker compose on a cheap mini PC and it chugs away happily, interfacing with all manner of devices (Phillips/Lifx/IKEA/Airpurifier/Bunnings brands). Only gets tricky to set up devices when you're dealing with some hostile cloud based gadget that doesn't want to play nice.
Unbelievable it can all be controlled offline using Siri on an iPhone, or other voice assistants.
It can even display your electricity consumption by counting the LED pulses on your smart electricity meter that fires every 1000th of a kw/h, only takes a cheap ESP32 and a photodiode: https://github.com/klaasnicolaas/home-assistant-glow
Such a wonderful project.
Looking at the benchmark where C++ is worst compared to other languages, it's depending on the library used. I would guess if they used Google's re2 Regex library instead of Boost's, the result would be different.

Project mention: Solar and Wind to Top Coal Power in US for First Time in 2024 | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-12-16It’s a wide range of sources but basically the different Independent System Operators in the US and the Energy Information Agency (EIA) All of our data scrappers are open source: https://github.com/kmax12/gridstatus
In the UK we use SMETS meters, viewable through https://github.com/cybermaggedon/pyglowmarkt and the Hildebrant Glow App! I found a Home Assistant plugin for this https://github.com/HandyHat/ha-hildebrandglow-dcc. Does anyone know of any similar homebridge plugins or can they make one usijg above Python library!
