I use a custom webpack builder for this. There's a bit of pre-req setup to do in your angular.json, but after that you can run your own webpack script for any of your build configurations.

You absolutely can..!! Check this project on Github i3-gnome. This is what I use to integrate i3 and gnome. There's an AUR package for the same too if you use Arch. Just make sure to read the project wiki to correctly set it up.
