I got too used to it
that is incorrect as of sept 2021 - yay can now run as root - it uses sytemd dynamic users to run makepkg without elevated permissions to work around that limitation.

Hello, you need to use "https://github.com/Morganamilo/paru" or "https://github.com/Jguer/yay" They are an aur helpers. You can found on the readme how to install and other. Anyway for install packages with paru or yay you need to do "paru -S visual-studio-code-bin" or "yay -S visual-studio-code-bin".

So I switched to Arch for a month...
Have you tried yay? Being able to pull and download from Git is a pretty nice addition. I'd say I'm able to find 95% of the things I want.

Has the AUR changed though? Yay still works well for me, so I'm not sure what there is to change, aside from this one bug report I created in 2021. It's not a huge issue though, since the package can just be reinstalled as a workaround.

To install things from the AUR you could use something like yay.

Was the Steam Deck your first experience of using Linux?
There's a wrapper you can install called yay that uses the same commands as pacman but allows for installing and updating from the AUR. It should at least help a bit. You can check it out here.
