In this scenario the clipboard will function without any issues and with no further steps. And you wouldn't require a compositor running in the guest.
You can also share a wayland connection between guest and host through shared memory buffers via virtio-gpu. But this requires crosvm (a VMM) as qemu doesn't yet have this functionality (yet?). Also need this tool: <https://github.com/talex5/wayland-proxy-virtwl>

I have also een keeping an eye on [0] and [1]. Super interesting but it seems like a deeper rabbit hole to get production-ready that I'm willing to bargain for at this point.
