[OC] U.S. Streamflow levels July 2021 compared to historic record
Nearly 8,000 active streamgages were used to make this chart, using the dataRetrieval package for R to access USGS streamflow data provided by the National Water Information System. Historic and current data were processed in R and the chart was made using the ggplot2, patchwork, and ggfx packages. Final text annotations were done using a vector graphics editor.

[OC] Millions of acres burned and millions of dollars spent on wildfire suppression 1985-2020
This bubble chart uses data reported from the National Interagency Fire Center (https://www.nifc.gov/fire-information/statistics/suppression-costs) on the total acreage of the U.S. burned by wildfires each year from 1985-2020, in addition to the cost of fire suppression by federal agencies and the total number of fires. Data were scraped using the rvest package in R and the gif was made using gplo2 and gganimate. The final gif was annotated using Adobe Photoshop.
