  Added po-32 support for Pocket scale calculator app. As this po model does not have hardcoded scales, calculations works in quite other way rather than for po-33 or po-35. Instead of showing the list of scale notes with their positions on pocket, the app will show the pitch values for your sound bank to get specific note from selected scale. It is handy to use 2 apps launched with the same tonic & scale, but with different models, for example: po-35 & po-32. While pocket scale calc with po-35 model in use will show an actual scale and notes positions, another one with po-32 model will show the pitch values you should set to your sound bank to get each note from the scale.

  Hey there, I've just pushed the latest update for the Pocket Scale Calculator app. Finally, it supports all 4 scales for po-35/137 models: Major, Minor, Blues & Arab. You can read more info and get it here: https://github.com/nikitabogdan/pocket-scale-calculator. I guess, this app is finished now as it covers the most common scales for both po-33 & po-35 models. It was an exciting research & coding experience, I've learned lots of technical & music theory stuff along the way. Thanks for your interest and support, it was the biggest pleasure to make it not for my needs only, but for the pocket operators community🙏

  This app helps me to get some specific music scales on my po-33 and po-35. It shows notes list, their positions on the pockets, root key index, out of scale notes indexes and sample note I should record to po to acually use selected scale.   Hey, check out the cover I’ve made for Amor Antiquita – Coffee House Rock song. This track was originally released on 8bitpeoples record label in Oct 2005, you can find it here: http://www.8bitpeoples.com/products/520235-amor-antiquita-metallic-sonatas. It was a long complicated journey to make this song and I would like to share with you some insights I’ve learned along the way. I’ve used 4 melodic channels for po-33: bass, vox lead & two pulse wave samples; 4 channels for po-32 with 8 drum samples; and both channels for po-35: high voice and low whistle. Po-32 & Po-35 have only 64 bar chain memory which is not enough to cover track length, so I had to divide the grid by 2 and switched the speed on both pockets from 170 to 85 & use some drum fills to achieve the same pattern structures. This allowed me to have a virtual 128-bar chain length on all three operators which was enough to cover basic track structure needs. How did I manage to get the track notes? Some notes from the original track were discovered with Ableton’s Tuner tool, some were discovered manually through the trial and error method. When all bass line notes were discovered, I’ve learned that the whole track was written in C major scale. It helped me to find out the rest of notes and figure out which scale I should use on my both po-33 and po-35 and the notes I should actually sample to use these scales (Pocket Scale Calculator app https://github.com/nikitabogdan/pocket-scale-calculator did a great job here). What about samples? Po-33 bass and vox samples were recorded from Garage Band app (yes, have to admit I’ve used some stock samples, my bad. But for a first attempt I do not find it totally bad practice as it allowed me to focus on the other challenges). The bass sample was recorded to po-35 first and then re-recorded to po-33, which made it quite more bouncy. Po-33 pulse wave samples were recorded from Gameboy dmg-01. Po-32 drum samples were taken from different parts of Microtonic vintage package and tuned to sound more like original track drum samples. Po-35 voice was recorded by myself:-) and low whistle was taken from Microtonic stock samples, scaled and used as a melodic one. Also, I’ve put some reverb on po-35 as it was done for both voice and whistle in the original track. That’s it! I had lots of joy in the process of making the track and just wanted to share it with someone else. Thanks for reading)
