If you are comfortable building CoreDNS, we provide a plugin for CoreDNS that can grab everything at the DNS layer: https://github.com/gravwell/coredns I can't speak highly enough of CoreDNS, it allows logging, fail over, caching, all of it. Configuration of CoreDNS is also dramatically easier than other DNS systems I have used.

CoreDNS?
I just started going down a rabbit hole with Gravwell for logging all my stuff. I've setup flow forwarding, Sysmon, Syslog, etc to all get stored centrally on my Gravwell server. Apparently, they wrote a plugin for CoreDNS and integrate with it nicely for logging. I was thinking about replacing Unbound with CoreDNS in my hierarchy. Since all my client traffic goes through NXFilter, I'm not sure how useful that telemetry would be though.
