But my God the GraphQL implementation took something that should have been beautiful and made it ugly. I used the go-graphql-client by hasura and this is an example of one of the simpler queries I had to use

GraphQL unit testing with AWS Lambda + Go
We have GraphQL schemas deployed in AWS AppSync. I wrote a Lambda function in Go that executes unit tests for the schema. The Lambda function is actually a resolver for a simple GraphQL schema with a single "test" mutation. I write a suite of unit tests for each query and mutation, and use github.com/hasura/go-graphql-client to directly call my endpoint. It handles both API_KEY and AWS_LAMDBA as authentication methods.
