  • My Experience With Emacs and the Eventual Regression to VSCode

I use embark and one of the options it gives on find-file is to open it via sudo (C-. s for me, and I think that's default bindings). So I would browse to the host at /ssh::/etc/foo/bar.conf and rather than just opening it hit C-. s.
  • Selectrum now deprecated in favor of Vertico

I dunno—I like how Vertico+Counsel feel. I'm not sure how good the support for Orderless and Embark are in Ivy, but I really like how those packages compose so nicely with the Vertico+Consult ecosystem.
  • org-cc: Custom completions for Org (WIP)
    9 projects | reddit.com/r/emacs | 22 Nov 2022
IV) Might there be a way to implement changing the sort order while the completing-read prompt is active? Or might it be a good idea to abandon completing-read completely for this and other features, like live editing? I am aware that some of this can be accomplished with Embark. Org tables and some other Emacs table libraries also go some way in this direction. The dream would be to have citar-like dynamic table construction + filtering + selection and Excel-like sorting + editing. Is anyone aware of any other package that goes into this direction?

Yes, Helm. Probably others like Embark.
  • What are the kinds of things you've written Emacs Lisp for?
    9 projects | reddit.com/r/emacs | 10 Sep 2022
Well, I've written some general purpose Emacs packages (orderless and embark) that I use a lot, but I also write Emacs Lisp for one-off tasks.
  • About to declare Emacs bankruptcy. Any advice for cool or new packages, defaults, or ideas I should use before I start building my init.el? Also interested in guides to using evil.

The only reason not to have which-key might be if you use Embark and set up embark-prefix-help-command instead.

  • GNU Hypobole 1.0
    2 projects | reddit.com/r/emacs | 22 Jun 2022
There have been a few recent discussions about the GNU Hyperbole package, which provides worldwide interlinking capabilities across different buffers and modes via implicit and explicit links, which are activated with a single command or key. This feature is interesting, but Hyperbole comes with a additional baggage, the Koutliner, HyRolo, HyControl and technical debt, which makes the package hard to get into. For this reason I tried to cook down the package to a minimal subset - GNU Hypobole. Since Emacs is Elisp and Elisp is Emacs it also makes sense to hack it yourself. Still, the following package is only meant as a demonstrator. If you truly want to use the hotkey functionality, you may rather use the original Hyperbole package, Embark (embark-dwim as hotkey and embark-act for additional actions) or simply Org-mode (org-open-at-point-global for Org links in arbitrary modes). Also consider contributing to Emacs or the package ecosystem! Thank you for reading!

  • How many lines are in your .emacs file?
    3 projects | reddit.com/r/emacs | 17 Apr 2022
My configuration would be twice as big if I hadn't published Embark as a package, which is 4100 lines (Embark has had many cool contributions from other users, but except for minad no-one has contributed a large number of lines, so I've probably still written more than 75% of the code currently there). Embark's default configuration is, with very few exceptions, just the portion of my personal Embark configuration that deals with built-in Emacs packages. 😛
