Emacs Debugging Basics
For debugging init file problems, I have gotten a lot of mileage out of elisp-bug-hunter. It will automatically bisect your init file to find the problematic code. It is one of the first things I load in my init.

You can try to bisect your config. Check https://github.com/Malabarba/elisp-bug-hunter and https://open.tube/videos/watch/4d819114-43bf-42df-af94-f94fc53dd0d9

RET isn't indenting on new line, when I expect it to (such as when pressing RET at the end of a line with a heading, we would expect an appropriate indentation)
Most likely, it is something about your config. I would start from an abolute minimal config and check if the setting works. If it does, you can use https://github.com/Malabarba/elisp-bug-hunter. If minimal config does not work, feel free to post steps you take here and I will try to help.

Slow image display
As always, first try to figure out if the problem is your own fault: run emacs -q and see if the problem occurs there. If not, then it's something in your configuration. You can then try the bisection method to figure out how you're causing the problem: comment out have your configuration and see if you can reproduce the problem, etc. The bug-hunter package partly automates this process.
