ClamAV can be configured to use some third party signatures, but this was hit and miss for me (and I haven't revisited it in a few years). I tried using it on a VPS with low memory, but it ground to a halt.

Modern options for outgoing SMTP relay SPAM/AV scanning?
ClamAV was great (before). I remember ClamAV detecting Conficker hours before our proprietary anti-virus started catching it. I feel its detection rate is now on a decline. I agree that Postfix + Amavisd-new + SA + ClamAV will still do the job quite well, I will just throw other AV engines for anti-malware effectiveness. If other AV engines are not possible, then at least use https://github.com/extremeshok/clamav-unofficial-sigs.
