How do I use the labels on a wall port to trace the ethernet cables to the switcher.
A sniffer capture expression also works, but isn't as pretty. Or install an LLDP sender on the laptop and see where it shows up on the switches. We use lldpd on POSIX and this one on Win32.

Why no layer 2 traceroute equivalent?
We started using LLDP on fixed hosts (servers) in 2008. lldpd is our choice on Linux, and since Microsoft manages not to support open protocols, someone finally wrote a sender for Windows, but it's in .NET CLR. These days we use virtually zero Windows Server, but we do use that implementation when applicable, and it works fine.

How to check if jack is patched to the network?
lldpd (POSIX) and WinLLDPService will send LLDP from your non-mobile nodes so that your smart switches can see them, which is even better.

Enabling LLDP on Windows Server 2019
The one and only third-party solutions will definitely transmit LLDP. However, it has the major drawback of requiring a PCAP driver to be installed, and it runs in CLR which means additional memory consumption and a dependency stack.

Jack works, but can't tone the cable due to continuity
Or vice *versa, by having the servers send LLDP as well as switches do. Our Linux servers send LLDP with lldpd, and Windows servers with WinLLDPService.

Network testing tools for LOTS of RJ45 wall jacks?
There are applications to listen like LDWin, but frankly, for port diagnostic purposes or manual debugging, it's just as easy to fire up tcpdump or Wireshark and watch for LLDP or CDP packets. What's more interesting is when you have hosts sending LLDP for Layer-2 adjacency tracing. On Linux/POSIX we prefer lldpd, and here's one for Windows. It requires a signed PCAP driver.
