    CAN is not needed for umbilical but makes that conversion much easier since you only have to run 4 wires instead of the 14 or more in a standard setup. Unless you have a fairly hot chamber (>70C), a CAN board on your toolhead isn't a huge deal. This is a pretty updated guide for CAN using BigTreeTech's EBB36/42 that I used on my recent 2.4 build.

    I wonder if this is a repost. However, to save the next person like me trying to set up canbus with bigtreetech ebb36 and u2c, this is the only guide (that I have tried out of a bunch) that led to a working setup. Countless hours were wasted trying to get it to work without success, with many guides used all over the place. Only after stumbling on this guide I managed to make it work.

    I used to have a rpi4 running it using a modified boot order (usb then sd card) but I wanted to change that to boot from sd because I needed the usb slot for a camera. I ended up switching from the RPI4 to my cb1 because I already have my u2c installed on the voron. I have a canhat as well that I am going to use on my ender I'm currently converting to SW. the Canhat doesn't fit on the cb1, so I needed to use the rpi4 on my SW. So I fully uninstalled and reinstalled everything on each device, and re-uploaded my cfgs, and this is now where I'm at. I have followed This guide to flash canboot and stuff, and from what I can tell it is all working the way it is supposed to. So when i go to my mainsail machine config screen it seems to be working 100% seen here:
