How’s the nano spam?
Iota is implementing dust protection to prevent the increase caused by spam transactions: https://github.com/GalRogozinski/protocol-rfcs/blob/dust/text/0032-dust-protection/0032-dust-protection.md

Two questions about old seeds and the upcoming changes
Side note, this opens the network up to a dust attack. 1 MIOTA worth $1.50 currently can be split into a million UTXO. Using 1 GIOTA you can bloat the database that all nodes store. Currently there is a dust protection mechanism, requiring a deposite of 1 MIOTA in an address in order to recieve 10 micro transactions. This is annoying but does not limit the capabilities of microtransactiosn because someone can always spend their 10 UTXO back to the same address for free (cuz IOTA) leaving them back with only one UTXO, with 9 available remining. So an infinite number of microtransactions could be sent to an address with only 1 MIOTA, as long as you are savvy.

Tokenization on the Tangle with IOTA Digital Assets
The minimum deposit is for dust protection (see RFC 32 - its a serious issue that requires this uncomfortable step) but a huge advantage over other coins is that it’s completely refundable, and without fees.

Why you should pay more attention to IOTA
From UTXO: because they have zero fees they open themselves up to dust attacks and came up with a dust protetion.
