Over 16,000 people still use a Pebble smartwatch
No, you can't— it's only the large-screen devices that support custom JavaScript-based apps. For example, using https://github.com/200Tigersbloxed/FitbitHRtoWS to get realtime heartrate data, for example to display as a Twitch stream overlay.
And it doesn't have its own GPS; it piggy-backs off the phone for that.

Why I'm leaving the FitBit ecosystem
I'm a relatively newer user and mostly happy with it as long I only do "supported" things. But I'm bummed that there isn't a good way to get live data out of the device. There's hacky solutions like https://github.com/200Tigersbloxed/FitbitHRtoWS, but that only applies to the newer JavaScript watches, not legacy trackers like my Luxe (which is not even a year old, augh).
Stats
The primary programming language of FitbitHRtoWS is JavaScript.
