RG Nano custom firmware
I was running into some choppiness issues on pretty much any system (yes, even Gameboy) with my RG Nano even with the latest firmware and found a FunKey OS custom firmware which has RG Nano support and fixed the issue! DrUm78's Custom OS has made it so much better to play and games seem to be silky smooth now - even PS1! PLUS the added bonus of a favorites option per system. Also, headphones via the dongle still work as well.

DrUm78's custom OS (60Hz) for the RG Nano TEST VERSION. Games run really smoothly, and a "favourites" playlist is available for each system/group! (audio through USB-C does not seem to work, as well as RTC or real-time clock)
Seems to be a version from this release in the url below. Check it out reading about the shortcut keys, all details on improvements made by DrUm78 etc. (this one specifically does NOT work on RG Nano directly, as is stated on the page itself): https://github.com/DrUm78/FunKey-OS/releases/tag/FunKey-OS-DrUm78

Is there a way to display PS1 bios on game startup?
If you want the PS1 bios startup intro, there is way, but before I go on, if you haven't already done so, I HIGHLY recommend you upgrade to DrUm78's latest custom OS, it brings new features, improvements and bugfixes, the biggest feature is the screen's 60hz refresh rate, to date, the screen was only running at 50hz. Grab the latest custom OS HERE, ignore this have you already upgraded.

Pokémon Mini
Another method is to use PicoArch and using the pokemini_libretro.so core, if your using DrUm78's latest custom OS (Here), if not, then I HIGHLY recommend you should! You can use PicoArch on the RetroFE frontend instead of Gmenu2x if that's what you prefer, the custom OS doesn't come with the core files needed, but you can grab them HERE. the cores link provided was shared by neonloop over on the Funkey S discord server.
