I used to dislike it but I started using it to support the tags needed for the spaced repetition plugin. Since I've gotten used to it I've grown to prefer it to inline metadata. Yes, it's clutter, but the clutter is contained. And if I'm honest it's taught me to accept more clutter in my notes, which I count as a positive. Why should I care about how "clean" my notes are? It's expensive to maintain uncluttered notes, and for little benefit.
