here is a good n64 controller test rom made with libdragon that works on real hardware (you just need the main.z64 rom from the release, not the source code) . I wouldn't mess around with the memory test component because if you're not careful you can corrupt controller pak saves but you can mess around with the other stuff just fine. As for the ROMs I can't really help you there, just be careful not to download any viruses, only download roms with a .n64 or .z64 extension.
