  • nextdns

    NextDNS CLI client (DoH Proxy)

  • Have a look at https://nextdns.io which can be configured to block DNS requests to everything in the FB domain, malware and the disgusting tracking APIs which follow us around and leech our web habits. Best of all, its free for less than 300,000 DNS requests per month.

  • asuswrt-merlin.ng

Third party firmware for Asus routers (newer codebase)

  • I, personally, run custom router firmware which allows me to block outbound DNS traffic unless it goes to the server I defined as well as using on-router adblocking solution. It has the additional benefit of allow me to replace holes left by ads with a single transparent pixel, thus reducing the visual effect of adblocking.

  • openwrt

Linux distribution for embedded devices (by robimarko)

  • I've never used Netgear, but it should be well-supported from what I've read. The big players are OpenWRT, DD-WRT and Tomato. Each one of those is slightly different, but they all support a similar set of features and should be able to help you achieve something similar. Also, https://www.snbforums.com/ is a really cool and active community where you can read up on things or ask questions if you get stuck.
