I recommend looking into distrobox. This is a shell wrapper around podman/docker that can be used to quickly setup a large range of distros on linux. It makes containers and integrates nicely with your home folder. I've been using it for having an arch distro with steam on fedora.

There's not much hacking to it... Containers offer mostly similar functionality. Podman's a better choice than Docker on Linux systems. Toolbx, built on podman, is probably the thing you're looking for, though.
