I’d suggest a DNS filtering service that gives users a selection of filterlists. I use NextDNS. You can start with a free account. It should be sufficient for a single device. There are other providers like ControlD (paid) or AhaDNS (free) as well. The level of filtering would depend on your needs. A strict filterlist like 1Hosts(Pro) will provide strong protection, but certain apps or App Store updates might not work or crash due to analytics or bug-tracking domains being blocked, although you can always manually whitelist the related domains. A more merciful filterlist like OISD would provide decent protection without breaking stuff, but there might be some tracking getting through.
