Although I'm not an expert in all of the methods of training and frankly I've only done Dreambooth myself, from what I've seen in the community dedicated to generating anime girls Dreambooth gives by far the best results. The other methods require (I believe) somewhere between 4-8gb of vram and are doable right inside of the AUTOMATIC111 webui - see here. As you've said, I think these less VRAM-requiring methods give rather low quality results but are viable if you don't want to spend money and have a decent GPU (probably have at least 4gb of VRAM).
