https://suckless.org has some great tools, I personally use ST as my main terminal. Make sure to patch it. I currently use https://github.com/siduck/st.

• tmux-ssh-split

  TMUX plugin to split the current pane while retaining SSH connections

Take a look at tmux-ssh-split. If you create a new split or window while using ssh, the new split will be another ssh instance to the same server at the same directory. No need for nesting.
