If you aren't using your own node, you can use a submarine swap service like https://boltz.exchange to send on chain BTC and pay an LN invoice generated by your wallet (to send the sats to yourself from on chain to LN)
There is a proposal to add remote signing to LND. This would allow node operators to keep their node's keys on a secure device. The device still has to be powered on 24/7 but it could be plugged directly into the node or transmit signed transactions over bluetooth, wifi, etc.
