I've never used systemd-boot, but it seems relarively similar to refind in terms of features. The only thing I don't like about sd boot is the lack of theming. There's no way to even change the colors of the boot textual menu, let alone having a graphical boot like refind does. I really wanted to give it a try, but judging for their stance on the subject I dont think theming is happening any time soon.
Especially when using refind-btrfs. "This tool is used to automate a few tedious tasks required to boot into Btrfs snapshots from rEFInd. It is to rEFInd what grub-btrfs is to GRUB.". It works great.
