I saw over at Miepee's mod collection that there's AM2R 1.1 speedrun practice mods. From my understanding, however, they can't be combined with the 1.5+ update. It would be great to have such a mod for 1.5 or higher, for speedrunners and non-speedrunners alike - the former would have a simpler way of routing and practicing things, and for the latter, I think the savestates would be the most useful feature, as they're the only thing missing compared to playing the official titles on the emulator. I often found myself wishing for savestates when I wanted to reset a Shinespark chain and had to manually walk to the very beginning of it and through the nearest door.
