  • I really liked "An Incremental Approach to Compiler Construction", a paper that walks through building a full Lisp-to-x86-assembly compiler, incrementally by building up components. There's also an extended tutorial version of the paper. I worked through the paper and built my own compiler as an early pandemic project and it was a ton of fun. The paper uses Scheme to implement the compiler, but I chose Racket instead, since I'm more comfortable with that, and it worked out well.
